Yes, it is perfectly safe for a woman to travel alone in India, especially in Rishikesh. Hundreds to women travelers come to Rishikesh for learning Yoga and Meditation and leave without any problem.

However, just like in any country, there are certain codes of conduct that should be followed by solo women travelers. For instance, it is advisable to not venture alone at night. One should dress modestly keeping in mind the culture and tradition of the region. Don’t indulge in drugs or alcohol with strangers that could impair your judgment.

The type of clothing that you should pack for your trip depends entirely on the time of the year. Rishikesh has a warm climate during the summer season (April – September). During this time around, you can pack loose-fitting clothes.

The winter season (October-March) can get chilly, especially after the sunset. We’d suggest you pack in layers so that you remove layers during the daytime and wear them during the night.

While it’s okay to wear fitted spandex or camisoles while you are in the center, we’d advise you to dress modestly and stick to loose clothing when in public. Women can even try out Indian attire. 🙂
